Humor can make
any presentation more interesting. Studies showed that people who
received a college lecture with humor in it were able to retain and
remember the information much longer than people who received the
same lecture without humor.
Remember these
guidelines in using humor in your presentations.
At Work
·
Smile at everyone you see.
·
Take a deep breath and smile before you answer the phone
·
Start meetings with a quick clean joke or funny story.
·
Add humor to planning meetings and problems solving sessions to
enhance creativity.
·
Keep a bulletin board for cartoons and jokes in the break room.
·
Keep some funny props (like a Groucho nose and glasses) in your desk
for quick jokes.
·
Keep a humor file of you favorite jokes, funny pictures and cartoons.
Look it over when you are feeling stressed.
·
When you are having a bad day go out to lunch with the most amusing
person you can find and don't talk shop.
·
Keep a funny calendar in your wallet or desk.
·
Be careful of inappropriate sexually oriented humor in the workplace,
but share as many appropriate jokes and funny stories as possible.
At Home
·
Greet the family with a smile every day.
·
Share jokes and stories with each other.
·
Make time for play and recreation often.
·
Watch the comedy channel and some funny TV shows.
·
Rent funny videos and have comedy night with the family once a week.
Try some classic movies like Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, or
Peter Sellers.
·
Keep humorous books around and read them regularly.
·
Read the comics when you read the newspaper.
·
Spend more time with friends that make you laugh.
·
Check the joke sites on the internet.
·
Keep a box of silly things around and bring them out when family and
friends visit. (Groucho noses, disguises, wax lips, bubbles,
kazoos, wind up toys, kaleidoscope, magic tricks, games, funny hats,
marbles, gag gifts ect.) Adults will enjoy these things as much as
children do.
Have fun with
it! |
